As said before Maurice, Fred and I arrived early in the morning at
Gilze-Rijen AB to see the arrivals of the KLu Opendays. All three of
us work for the Royal Netherlands Air Force, so we were able to
enter the airbase with our military IDs.
The day began
with the arrival of a USAF KC-135R of RAF Mildenhall. The next
movement was the departure of the Egypt Air Force Hercules which
brought the Gomhouria Mk.8. The Gomhouria is actually a Bücker
Bü-181 Bestmann, which is build by the Egyptian Heliopolis Aircraft
Works. At least 300 Gomhouria's were build in Egypt and both the
Algerian and Egypt Air Force operated several of them.
Some other
nice highlights of the KLu Opendays at Gilze-Rijen AB were the two
Phantoms of the Turkish Air Force and of course the Hellenic Air
Force Phantom which were parked next to each other. Besides the
arrivals we were able to take some shots of the rehearsals. |
