The main goal of our trip to Greece was the airshow held at Tanágra
AB. On Saturday the 17th around eight o'clock we were picked up at
the train station of Inoi. Here we got our photo passes for this day
and drove to the static display by bus.
After we entered the
base we first walked along some preserved aircraft which are
normally parked on several different places on base. Always nice to
see the old stuff. The first operational aircraft we saw was one of
the highlights of the static display, an Douglas C-47 Dakota. The
biggest highlight of the Hellenic Air Force on the static display
was the SA.319 Alouette 3, of which are only two left in their
inventory.
Later that day we when
to the hangars of the Hellenic Aircraft Industries which is also
located at Tanágra. In these huge hangars the HAI does the
maintenance of various types of aircraft operated by the Hellenic
Forces. Among the forty aircraft parked inside the hangar was also a
Bell 412SP operated by the Cypriot Police Force. What a visit this
was, awesome! |
