Royal Intern. Air Tattoo RAF Fairford, 25-26 July 1999 |

This year I went to the RIAT at RAF Fairford together with Maurice and Fred. On Saturday we drove towards England and stopped early in the evening at RAF Lyneham where we saw 19 Hercules'. We stayed in at The Old Ragoon camping near RAF Fairford for two nights.
The next day we sent the whole day at RAF Fairford. First we walked along the static display and later we found ourselves a spot along the display line. This years RIAT wasn't really uneventful as a Spitfire had an overheated engine, the G-222 had a birdhit during its display, and the Crusader had a burst tire on landing. Fortunately no one was injured.
The next day we got up early again to find ourselves a nice spot to take shots of the departures. They used both sides of the runway during the day, which made it sometimes hard to take the perfect shots. Highlights of this years RIAT were the Australian 707, the USMC AV-8s, the B-2 Spirit and the Canadian Dash 8. For me it was once more a RIAT to remember! (Click here for a full log) |
