Royal Intern. Air Tattoo  RAF Fairford,  19 July 1997

Just like the last years, I visit the Royal International Air Tattoo at RAF Fairford in 1997. This year I went there together with my dad and my brother Rick. The main theme of this years event is the 50th anniversary of the United States Air Force. To celebrate this milestone the US participated with lots of nice and special aircraft. Besides the F-16s from Shaw AFB and Cannon AFB the appearance of the B-2A Spirit was a real highlight.

A small Tiger Meet was organized at RAF Fairford this year which brought a lot of nicely painted jets and helicopters to Gloucestershire. My personal highlight this year, is the huge participation of East-European countries. Starting with the Czech Republic with two MiG-23s. The Polish Air Force with two MiG-29 Fulcrums. And the Russians with two nice Su-30 Flankers. The Ukrainian Air Force contribution was enormous with a total of ten aircraft. Two Ilyushins which were used as support aircraft parked at the static. Two Su-27 Flankers and a total of six MiG-29s of the aerobatic team The Ukrainian Falcons. This all makes it probably the best Air Tattoo I've ever been to.          (Click here for a full log)
