Powidz,  26 April 2000

After a ten-hour drive we finally arrived at the headquarters at Witkowo, where we were expected. Here we saw an Il-28 and a TS-8 which are preserved near the headquarters. Closed to Witkowo you find the Polish Air Force base Powidz where our first base visit was planned.

At first it was all very disappointing because only two Su-22s were parked outside. Later another one was towed out of its shelter, but still we were not satisfied. Then they showed us some An-2s. But greedy as we were, we kept on asking for more. This helped us a lot. When our base visit ended very early in the afternoon they told us to come back around 17.30h to see the first wave of the night flying.

This time we had a bit more luck and we were able to take pictures of six Su-22 Fitters at the flightline. Unfortunately we had backlight on the runway, so no take off shots. After this second visit of about two hours we left Powidz and drove towards Poznań where we booked an hotel and stayed for the night.
