Poland Tour,  24/25 August 1999

In the year 1999 the MiG-23 made its last flight with the Polish Air Force. That same year the Polish Ministry of Defence started to organize some base visits at Polish Air Force, Army and Naval bases.

The main theme for the visits this time was the withdrawal of the MiG-23 Flogger after operating twenty years for the Polish Air Force. On August the 23rd, around nine o’clock in the evening Maurice Hendriks, Jeff Verdonk and I headed towards Poland. Unfortunately one of us got only two days off, so we had to skip the visit at Pruszcz-Gdańksi. Despite that it was a very good trip.

The next day a base visit was planned at Naval base Darłowo which operates the Mi-14 and some Mi-2s. Later that afternoon we had a look from outside Swidwin Airbase, to see the local Su-22 Fitters. The second day of our short visit to Poland was the main goal of our tour. This gave us the change to see the last Polish MiG-23 Floggers flying from their home base Słupsk-Redzikowo. What an awesome experience!!  (Click here for a full log)
